The Trainee Standby Props work under direction of the standby prop, and assisting them throughout the course of a production. They must ensure that all standby props are available on set or location according to the production schedule. They must begin working in advance of shooting to assist in making sure that specific props are in the right place, at the right time, for each scene. This is particularly the case with hero props – major props which are crucial to the scene. They must work to production schedule and deadlines. They must be prepared to follow instructions accurately, and problem solving where required.
For this role, you will need:
An interest in art, design and film, and the ability to learn on the job.
Great attention to detail and observational skills.
Ability to take and accurately follow instructions, asking questions for clarity if necessary.
Ability to work well as part of a team.
Ability to work under pressure and to deadline and to work long hours in a physically demanding role.
Understanding of health and safety.
Ability to be flexible and problem solve when required.
This is an entry level position. A Trainee Standby Props may have an Art, Design or Film Studies qualification, but this is not essential. Enthusiasm and the ability to work hard are important.
