The Best Boy Grip supports the key grip on a production, running the day-to-day operations of the department on behalf of the key grip. They must act as the foreman for the grip department on set, assigning tasks to crew members and managing their tasks and schedules. They are responsible all of the equipment and expendables, keeping detailed records of when the equipment leaves and is returned to the grip truck, ensuring that it is ordered as required, and that it is in the right place at the right time. They must liaise with the key grip to maintain status reports on the running of the department and the work in progress, along with honest estimates of timelines and job completion.
